TCG Pre-order Slot Manager vs WhatsApp Lists, Carousell & Excel

8 June 2026

A new Pokémon set drops. Within 10 minutes your Telegram blows up. You post a broadcast on WhatsApp. People start replying "I want 2 boxes", "reserve for me", "how many slots left?". You open Excel and start typing. By the third reply, your phone buzzes with a message from a different group. You switch tabs. You lose your place.

This is the pre-order experience for most TCG sellers in Singapore in 2026. And it works — until you're running 5 pre-orders at once for 50 buyers each.

The Problem With Each Tool Sellers Currently Use

WhatsApp Broadcast Lists

WhatsApp is where your buyers are, and that's not changing. But using it as your reservation system has real problems:

  • Replies come in as individual DMs — you have to manually compile them
  • No way to know if someone who said "reserve" is serious or just interested
  • Messages get buried. Buyers forget they reserved. You forget you confirmed them.
  • No structured data — you get "eh I want 1 box" not a clean name + contact + qty entry
  • If your phone dies or you switch devices, the list is gone

Telegram Groups and Channels

Same core problem as WhatsApp, just in a different app. Telegram channels are great for announcements but terrible for collecting structured reservations. You end up pinning a form link or asking people to comment, and then manually reading through 80 comments to build your list.

Carousell

Carousell was built for buy-and-sell, not for pre-orders. There's no concept of "pending allocation" or "slot confirmed." You can create a listing and mark it reserved, but managing 30 different buyers on a single Carousell listing means 30 separate chat threads with no central view.

Excel and Google Sheets

Excel is the most common fallback — and for good reason. It gives you structure. But it has a fundamental problem: it's completely manual. Every entry has to be typed in by you. Every status change ("confirmed", "collected") is a manual update. And it doesn't connect to anything — your buyers can't see it, update it, or submit to it.

The result is two separate workflows: one messy one in WhatsApp where buyers interact, and one clean one in Excel that's always slightly out of date because you haven't had time to sync it.

What a Pre-order Slot Manager Actually Does

A proper slot manager connects the buyer-facing and seller-facing sides of a pre-order into one system:

  • Buyer side — a form on the product page where buyers submit their name, WhatsApp number, and quantity. Takes 30 seconds. No DM required.
  • Seller side — a table that shows every reservation: who reserved, how many, when, and their contact. Status updates (pending → confirmed → collected) in one click.
  • No manual data entry — the data goes straight from buyer to your dashboard. Nothing to copy-paste.
  • Price snapshot — the unit price at the time of reservation is recorded. If you update the price later, historical orders show what the buyer was quoted.

How TCGOrder Handles This

TCGOrder's Pre-order Slot Manager is built directly into your storefront. When you list a product as a pre-order, a "Reserve a Slot" button automatically appears on the product page. Buyers fill in their details — name, WhatsApp number (with country code selector), quantity, and an optional note — and hit Reserve.

On your end, every submission lands in a clean table under Pre-order Slots in your dashboard. You can:

  • Filter by product (if you're running multiple pre-orders at once)
  • Filter by status — see all pending slots, or just confirmed ones
  • Mark slots as confirmed or collected with one click
  • Export the full list as a CSV to share with your team or keep for records

The WhatsApp and Telegram buttons are still there for buyers who prefer to reach out directly — the slot form sits above them as the recommended option. Sellers on Pro and Business tiers get full slot management. Free tier storefronts show the standard contact buttons only.

The Real Difference

The tools you're currently using (WhatsApp, Telegram, Carousell, Excel) require you to be in the middle of every step. Someone wants to reserve — you have to respond. Someone cancels — you have to update the sheet. Stock arrives — you have to message everyone individually to confirm.

A slot manager removes you from the data collection step entirely. Buyers submit. Data appears. You manage from a single view. WhatsApp is still there for actual conversations — just not for building a list.
